Yangzer Gompa (detail)

£ 2200 instead of £2600
This is one of a series of paintings for my Ambleside Mountain Festival exhibition in 96. It was painted after trekking in Inner Dolpo on the ancient yak route that passes through Shey Gompa, immortalised in the book "The Snow Leopard".

Jura
30 x 30 cm
£ 700
This painting goes some way to explaining my love of the West Coast of Scotland. Clouds scudding across the sky, their shadows racing across the hills, deep blue sea in the Sound of Jura, light emerald shades of the sunlit sandy shallows. Sparkling white surf on the rocks and beach. And a brisk Northerly keeping the midges away.
Ring of Bright Water Study
26 x 36 cm
£ 700
My secret cove, otters and seals for company. A magical place, a Northerly blowing white horses down the Sound.
Jura, evening light.
22 x 34 cm
£ 700
Often at the end of the day, the light rewards those still outside with a dazzling show. This was really only the beginning of the end of the day with the sun reflecting off the sea in a thousand sparkles as it dropped down playing hide and seek among the scudding clouds.
Snow on the tops
70 x 100 cm
£ 1500 instead of £2000
This was a belter of a day in May. Icy Northerly wind, new snow on the Paps of Jura, bright dark water with white horses racing down the Sound. A day seized.
Loch Awe, 10pm
24 x 25 cm
£ 400 instead of £700
Painted at the end of a long day's working en plein air at Eredine on Loch Awe in the magical gloaming of the North west summer. Midges held a bay with a large outdoor citonella candle and generous doses of Jungle Juice. Oil on upcycled prepared card. Framed in an off-white bespoke frame under museum glass.
La Chanaz
27 x 35 cm
£ 500 instead of £650
La Chanaz, the medieval hamlet that we overlook at the Le château de Moiré. Painted during the long hot month of August. The golden limestone glowing in the warmth of the sun. The rolling hills eventually lead to the Loire, about a 1000 km upstream from it’s mouth on the Atlantic coast.
