Vaul
40 x 42 cm
£ 800
My last painting on Tiree for 2023. A grey wet unpromising day, it being my last on the island, I needed to make it count. Went up to Vaul, an astoundingly beautiful place with ancient ruined black houses showing off their remarkable masonry. A gorgeous bay. hinting at its brilliant colours hiding under the grey rain, a rusting seed drill warranting a closer look. Lazy Atlantic swell crumping onto the rocks. Corncrakes rasping on the machair.

A gorgeous November day. Bracken golden browns and metallic blue sea in the chilly sunshine.
Jura
30 x 30 cm
£ 700
This painting goes some way to explaining my love of the West Coast of Scotland. Clouds scudding across the sky, their shadows racing across the hills, deep blue sea in the Sound of Jura, light emerald shades of the sunlit sandy shallows. Sparkling white surf on the rocks and beach. And a brisk Northerly keeping the midges away.

Often at the end of the day, the light rewards those still outside with a dazzling show. This was really only the beginning of the end of the day with the sun reflecting off the sea in a thousand sparkles as it dropped down playing hide and seek among the scudding clouds.

Pink Camellia
30 x 30 cm
£ 600
Pink camellia. Painted after school drop-off. I was aware that these are precious moments and this painting is a tangible reminder. The camellias are first to brave the chill of early spring, taking their chances against the frequent frosts to delight and show off their delicate and exuberant blossom. As in life, most folk are too busy to stop and stare in wonder at its magnificence. This is a live recorded memory, a painted time-lapse expressed through layers of paint, wet on wet. #oiloncanvas 30x30cm. #robertinnes #pleinair #paintingfromlife #keepingcolourful #spring #somersetlife #perrotthill #impressionist #expressionist #lockdownart #camellia #blossom #pinkandgreen

Slade Harbour
60 x 60
£ 1250 instead of £1600
Slade Harbour. Painted when Louise was singing at Wexford Opera Festival. I love the strong contrasts, the repeated shapes, patterns and reflections of light and shadow. It’s curious that when light is reflected it obscures whereas when darkness is reflected it enables you to see through the surface. Oil on canvas, 60x60cm
Oingt, September
40 x 40 cm
£ 600 instead of £800
Oingt, built on its hill top has one tower left from it’s citadel which pairs up with the church, perched on the edge of its rocky outcrop. You can climb to the top for panoramic views and also explore its bottle dungeon, which forms part of the communal gallery space where I have exhibited in the past. This is painting is loaded with memories for me. You can see traces of an earlier painting, one of my very rare abandoned paintings on account of the cold. I had to stop after losing feeling in my hands and feet due to a windchill of about -25 and I didn’t have the right clothes on. Then the painting on the surface was painted from the lane leading to Ste Paule, a tough ascent on a bike and home to some excellent winemakers. The foreground is an abandoned vineyard, always quite a sad sight but visually rich with the old vines and wild flowers taking it back to nature. Louise gave à beautiful recital in the church on the outcrop and we have passed some memorable moments in the ancient honey coloured stone houses that line the lanes that lead up to the top. Oil on canvas 40x40cm Really quite happy if no one to buys this one.
Le Taille 2
27 x 29 cm

Taille des vignes, pruning the vines. One of my favourite paintings created in the Beaujolais. The vignerons are truly part of the territory. In this work the landscape, the activity and the winemaker are one.
